Conventional I-shape brace member bolted connections under seismic loading: Laboratory study

چکیده
In many regions of the world, a conventional low-ductility concentrically braced frame (CBF) is commonly chosen as seismic force resisting system. The energy dissipation not restricted to yielding and buckling braces, would be required for ductile frames; rather, assumed occur through localised friction in connections, well limited member yielding. objective this study was characterize by means laboratory testing inelastic response full-scale I-shape braces their bolted connections under reversed-cyclic loading. Six brace specimens comprising two used connection types, flange plate angle, were designed following Type CC provisions prescribed CSA S16. achieved storey drift ratios 1%–2%, due deformations both even though capacity based design incorporated design. Energy resulted from overall local buckling, gusset tension plates, angles block shear failure webs angles, bolt fracture along with slip. However, observed performance these necessarily guaranteed replicated all CBF designs conservative nature variability accuracy existing S16 equations that relied upon detail test specimens.

Analytical and Experimental Investigation of I Beam-to-CFT Column Connections under Monotonic Loading (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this study, the behavior characteristics of I beam-to-concrete filled tube (CFT) column connection is studied through experiment and finite element models under the monotonic loading. To validate the finite element modeling, at first, an experimental model is made and experimented. After validation of the finite element modeling, different models were created in the software. The studied par...

cast connections. ABSTRACT: Diagonal bracings are extremely popular elements for lateral load resistance in steel-framed buildings. In turn, the most common shape used for bracing members is the hollow structural section. While the design of such members is straight-forward, the design of gusset-plate connections at the member ends is controversial. This paper reviews the current ‘state-of-the-...

Some considerable damage to steel structures during the Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake occurred. Among them, many exposed-type column bases failed in several consistent patterns, such as brittle base plate fracture, excessive bolt elongation, unexpected early bolt failure, and inferior construction work, etc. The lessons from these phenomena led to the need for improved understanding of column base...

The primary goal of this thesis is to analyze current trends in the improvement of the performance and safety of glass during an earthquake. The four sections consist of an overview of glass as a building material, glass installation methods, rehabilitation methods for existing structures, and building code related issues. The thesis is based on an analysis of sources including books, journal a...
متن کاملA Study on the Ductility of Bolted Beam - Column Connections
The behaviour of beam-column joint plays an important role in the response of a steel moment resisting framed structure especially under seismic excitation. Semi rigid connections like bolted joints, allow better energy dissipation and provide good response under lateral loads. In this paper the ductility and energy dissipation characteristics of semi rigid bolted connections using double web a...
